Release Date: July 8, 2020
On July 3, 2020, Finger Lakes SPCA (FLSPCA) was contacted by county law enforcement for on-scene veterinary assessments and for the potential removal of animals in need of care and treatment while a search warrant was being executed at a Wolf Run Road residence in Campbell, New York.
FLSPCA quickly mobilized members of their emergency response animal rescue team which included a licensed veterinarian, experienced animal handlers and transport and load personnel. Veterinary evaluation of the animals and their environment made it clear that they could not remain in those conditions.
Over the course of 6 hours, and two trips to and from the location, FLSPCA removed a total of 65 animals which included 8 dogs, 2 cats, 2 roosters, 2 hens, 15 ducks, 13 guinea hens and 23 rabbits.
Tragically, after full veterinary examinations, 6 dogs had to be euthanized for humane reasons due to long-term and irreparable pain and suffering.
The remaining animals are receiving treatment and care at FLSPCA and are adjusting well to their new surroundings. These animals will have to be held while this animal cruelty case is adjudicated and a final disposition for their custody is determined.
Gordon E. Burdick, age 78, of Wolf Run Road, Campbell, NY was arrested by our county law enforcement.
Donations of needed supplies or financial contributions are being sought to help defray costs connected with this critical rescue and the care of these animals. Online contributions can be made by visiting fingerlakesspca.org or by mailing a check to FLSPCA, 72 Cameron Street, Bath, NY 14810.
