Interested in Volunteering?

Volunteers Needed – August 2024

We have need of volunteers in the following areas. If you are interested, please e-mail Michael Hopkins, Executive Director, at michael@fingerlakesspca.org, or call him at 607-622-5363. Application necessary with references. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. For younger persons, consider a volunteer morning with a school, scouting 4H, church, etc. group.

Dog Walkers
Commitment: To regularly walk dogs one session per week (you can do more than one session if you like, but it is most helpful if it is regular). Time is flexible but mid to late afternoon is preferred. Some training is required, especially when walking puppies or young dogs. Walking only on the grounds of the FLSPCA only. Walking shoes required (no open-toed footwear, please).

Food Pantry Assistants
Our food pantry is now open on Tuesdays from 11 am to 4 pm. Our administrative assistant oversees the pantry, but we need a couple of people to help sign clients in and assist them in choosing what they need. One of two shifts would be helpful, 11am—1pm or 1pm—4pm.

Summer/Fall Window Washers
All our buildings need windows washed. Could be done anytime during business hours, or by other arrangement.

Office Help
A commitment to a half day per week to assist with preparing materials for mailing, proofreading, tidying up, etc.

Laundry Helpers
Commitment: Once a week, a minimum of two hours in the afternoon (ending not later than 4:30 pm), to assist the staff in doing laundry (mostly towels, sheets, and fleece blankets), folding and storing. We have two washing machines/dryers. This is a vitally important help to us as most of these items get cleaned after one day’s use.

Community Event Table
Volunteers are needed to help staff an FLSPCA table at community events, such as the Bath Fair,
Cohocton Fall Foliage Festival, Tractor Supply adoption events, etc. One staff or board member would normally be with you.

If you would like, you can also fill out the volunteer profile form ahead and bring it with you to the meeting. Otherwise you will receive it the day of your meeting.
